Pamela is a mum of two and her memories of feeding her daughter Emily are very precious to her as she sadly passed away from meningitis at one month old.

Pamela is also very proud to have breastfed her son Lucas through severe reflux which meant that she had to exclusively express for the first 8 weeks. Lucas is now 2 and continues to breastfeed. Pamela was supported through the emotional experience of feeding Lucas by BfN Peer Supporters Rhona Capkiner and Marion McDonald as she was a regular attender at the Saltcoats Parent & Baby Café group. It was this support that inspired Pamela to train with the BfN herself.

Pamela trained as a BfN Helper and began volunteering in the North Ayrshire Parent & Baby Cafés inApril of 2019, regularly making the journey from her home in Largs to Saltcoats and Kilbirnie to support families. She has a lovely smile which instantly puts you at ease and having been through a very emotional experience herself, brings a deep empathy to her role which is very much appreciated by the many families that she has supported. We are very grateful for Pamela’s commitment and dedication to supporting families in North Ayrshire.

Rhona Capkiner, Community Peer Supporter for the North Ayrshire Parent & Baby Cafés says:
‘Pamela is an inspiration! She is brave and selfless. I thought she would be an amazing volunteer and told her about the Helper training. She has been a brilliant asset to BfN. She is great with all the mums, full of amazing information and always goes the extra mile. It’s a pleasure to work with Pamela.’

Pamela went on to complete the National Breastfeeding Helpline Supporter training in March 2020 and even though she is a busy working mum herself, she can regularly be found volunteering on the helpline supporting other mums in any spare time she has, usually during her sons nap time and in the evening. Due to the impact of COVID-19 the National Breastfeeding Helpline has become more vital than ever as parents seek information and emotional support in this very challenging time. Cara Jamieson, NBH Manager tells us that Pamela has really risen to the challenge and has already achieved her 50 calls milestone which is a wonderful achievement in just a few short months! Pamela has recently undergone webchat training so that she can also support mums via Messenger.

Cara says: ‘We are so grateful for her enthusiasm and commitment to supporting families through the National Breastfeeding Helpline’.

💜💚Thank you Pamela💚💜
